GENERAL SURGERY
SPECIALISTS
Baton Rouge
Surgical Group
This medical specialty treats patients that are ill with
diseases that require surgical proceedures for
treatment.
Each General Surgeon goes through a 5 year residency
program after graduation from medical school.
During this time the General Surgery resident adds to
his/her knowledge of anatomy, physiology, metabolism,
immunology, nutrition, pathology, wound healing, shock
and resuscitation and intensive care.
He/she learns how to evaluate patients prior to surgery,
develops the various skills and techniques needed to
perform major surgery and learns how to care for
surgical patients post-op and how to deal with the
possible complications that may develop post-op.
Many are board certified by
the American College of Surgeons.
