This surgical subspecialty treats patients that are ill with
diseases of the urinary tract.
Each Urologic Surgeon completes two years of General Surgery
training after graduation from medical school.
Then he/she completes a four year urologic surgery residency.
During this time each Urology resident learns how to diagnose
diseases that affect the male & female urinary tract
and the male reproductive system in both adults and children.
Such diseases include congenital malformations, trauma,
inflamatory problems, tumors, kidney stones,
cancer of the urinary tract, urinary incontinence, obstruction,
male infertility and impotence.
Most Urologists are board certified by the
American Board of Urology.
Many are also board certified by the
American College of Surgeons.
